Over December a lot of us will have been travelling the country visiting relatives and attending parties. With the amount of warn out markings and “street furniture” on roads today there’s a good chance a few of you accidentally  got caught out and earned yourself a parking ticket.

If you have managed to get ticketed there’s a free website that will help draft your appeal letter and claims a 40% success rate at getting the fines dropped.

Just to make things clear : If you knowingly parked illegally you should just go ahead and pay the fine. There are however  plenty of situations where either the markings weren’t clear or signs were contradictory. A few years back I got ticketed in Wales for parking on a double yellow despite the yellow markings having worn away so much that I didn’t see them. at the time I didn’t know I could appeal and just paid. I’ve put in details of that event to this site so you can get a demonstration of the sort of appeals it generates:

www.donotpay.co.uk

The website presents itself as a robot which comes up with some fairly decent responses:

Robot Lawyer
Robot Lawyer

You answer the robot-lawyers questions:

Robot Lawyer 2
Robot lawyer 2

Once the robot has understand what you are trying to do it asks for specific details to populate the customised appeal:

Robot Lawyer 3
Robot Lawyer 3

The site then generates a letter for you to print out and send to whoever issued you the fine:

Robot Lawyer 4
Robot Lawyer 4

The whole process is very straight forward and is likely useful to anyone who doesn’t feel confident writing formal letters to government departments. The website is also able to write letters regarding landlords not fixing the property if you are a tenant and trying to get money back if your flight was delayed.

If anyone has used this to successfully appeal a fine or get some money back please leave a comment below.
